What My Dad’s 44 Years in Real Estate Have Taught Me
I recently sat down with my dad, Bill McDaniel, to talk about the changes he’s seen in commercial real estate over his 44-year career. He started with small rental houses, then moved into multifamily properties and warehouses as he gained experience.
When I asked which property types stand out to him today, his answer was clear: warehouses. He sees strong demand and limited supply, and says many warehouse tenants, often service businesses, are stable and take good care of their spaces. He also urged caution with retail as online shopping grows, while noting that smaller strip centers can still have potential.
My biggest takeaway from our conversation was the value of learning from experience and staying attentive to what businesses need.
